چکیده

1. Every theory is based on some simplifications of observed phenomena. This simplified abstract phenomenon is usually called a "model". Depending on the level of simplification the model enables us to predict more or less accurately the original situation. The scientist who tries to describe a physical phenomenon in terms of mathematical equations, or, more generally, by means of some mathematical algorithm, deals in fact with a particular type of model which, due to its abstract form, is more flexible and in which the number of parameters used is less restricted than in models of a different kind. However, the similarity between the original and model phenomena is clearer in mathematical models because we never deal with the similarity between two obscure situations and at least one side of the relation, namely the mathematical side, can be fully explained. Now the form of a model might be very simple, therefore the similarity is very superficial. In the case of a mathematical model such a simple form gives only the possibility of reconstruction of the original ])henomenon using the values of several parameters and we usually try lo use a miilimal number of such parameters. Such a simple model of the electrical aclivity of the neuron will be described in this paper. The deeper, sense of creating models is to extract such information as enables us to predict behavior: if the model agrees with some actual phenomenon then perhaps a physiological experiment can be designed which will clarify its physical or chemical mechanisms. The procedure described below should be treated as the first step to obtain a more complete model. 2. The information carried by the signals from the sensory unit to the central nervous system is, as it is commonly believed, coded by a pattern of activity. However, we do not know the coding system.

Effects of Donepezil Hydrochloride on Neuronal Response of Pyramidal Neuron of the CA1 Hippocampus in Rat Model of Alzheimer\'s Disease

Introduction: Donepezil (DON), an Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor (AChEI), is widely used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). The current study aimed at evaluating the effect of donepezil hydrochloride on pyramidal neuron response in CA1 region of a rat model of AD. Methods: In the current experimental study, adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: Nucleus Basal...

Role of STDP in regulation of neural timing networks in human: a simulation study

Many physiological events require an accurate timing signal, usually generated by neural networks called central pattern generators (CPGs). On the other hand, properties of neurons and neural networks (e.g. time constants of neurons and weights of network connections) alter with time, resulting in gradual changes in timing of such networks. Recently, a synaptic weight adjustment mechanism has b...

Comparison of the effect of quasitrapezoidal and rectangular pulses on bio- electrical activity, calcium spike properties and afterhyperpolarization potentials of Fl cells of Helix aspersa using intracellular recording

While the effect of changes of stimulus waveform (quasitrapezoidal and rectangular current pulses) on nerve activation is clear, but there is no evidence on the effect of quasitrapezoidal pulses on ionic currents of cellular membrane. In the present study, the effect of depolarizing quasi-trapezoidal current pulses, in comparison with that of depolarizing rectangular current pulses, on firing...

Transcranial Focused Ultrasound Modulates Electrical Behavior of the Neurons: Design and Implementation of a Model

Background: Recently, ultrasonic neuromodulation research has been an important and interesting issue. Ultrasonic neuromodulation is possible by the use of low-intensity transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) to stimulate or inhibit the neural structures. The primary capability of this method is the improvement in the treatment progress of certain neurological and psychiatric disorders noninvas...

Electrical Activity in a Time-Delay Four-Variable Neuron Model under Electromagnetic Induction

To investigate the effect of electromagnetic induction on the electrical activity of neuron, the variable for magnetic flow is used to improve Hindmarsh-Rose neuron model. Simultaneously, due to the existence of time-delay when signals are propagated between neurons or even in one neuron, it is important to study the role of time-delay in regulating the electrical activity of the neuron. For th...
